Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement? Absolutely not. We love families with children of all ages! In fact, many of our charters will be with families that include very young children. Charters will be customized to the wishes of the parent/adult to best suit the entire family. This is very common.

Is there a bathroom onboard? Yes, there is a small bathroom onboard. It is an enclosed water closet portable toilet, completely private with lockable door and light. The private bathroom (head) is located forward of and under the helm; however, please note that it is not easily accessed for anyone with limited mobility.

How many kayaks and paddle boards will there be for our group?
There will be (3) total hybrid kayak/paddle boards (SUPs) safely secured above the boat's hard top. For groups larger than three and all wanting to paddle, you would need to share/take turns or double up on a kayak. Kayaks are "sit-on-top" style, nearly 11 feet long and can easily handle two people if needed.

Is the price of the charter per person or the whole group? The charter price listed is for your entire group. You can have up to 6 people on any of our three charter options. Many of our charters consist of just a couple or few people. This is a private charter, so we do not group you with other people - ever. It will only be your group on the boat with the captain, even if your "group" is far fewer than 6 people.

Can we have more than 6 people if we pay extra? No, although the boat is U.S. Coast Guard approved to accommodate up to 10 people, the max we can take on any charter is 6 passengers. This is not our rule, rather it's how the U.S. Coast Guard licenses private charters like those offered by Maritime Adventure Charters SOMD.

Will there be a Captain with Crew/Deckhand? No, in most cases, your Captain will also serve as crew. No deck hand or additional crew is usually required. The Captain is very experienced at catering to the needs of all guests, regardless of age or abilities and loves helping people have an awesome day of adventure throughout your charter.

Is it customary to tip the Captain? Tips are discretionary; however, it is customary to tip the Captain for excellent service, generally between 15-20%. Your Captain will work very hard to make sure your group has an extraordinary experience; however, any tip and tip amount is always at the guest's discretion!

Do charters last the full time booked (3hr/6hr/8hr)? Generally, yes. However, if for any reason your group needed to end early, that's totally up to you. Again, these are private charters, so you can decide. It's your charter. Just let the Captain know and he will do his best to adjust accordingly. Charters ending early at the client's request would not be eligible to receive a charter price reduction.
Additionally, any charter that is scheduled to conclude, but your group wishes to extend beyond their chartered time, that too may also be possible. The Captain would work that out with you either before or during the charter. In many cases, extending your charter may be possible but for an additional cost to cover the additional time and fuel.

Calvert Cliffs fossil hunts - What do we need to bring? The only special gear you really need would be water shoes or shoes that you don't mind getting wet and sandy (i.e. old sneakers etc.). Everyone must wear shoes, so their feet are protected from any sharp rocks or shell fragments. No additional gear is required to find fossils, just knowledge and persistence. The Captain will provide a quick lesson on the best tactics and shoreline locations for finding fossils; from shark teeth, ray crushing plate fragments, shells and if you're very lucky, maybe even a giant Megalodon shark tooth (see Calvert Cliffs page).

Inclement Weather: Safey is our top priority. Always. In the case of an inclement weather forecast, the Captain will provide you with two options, reschedule the charter for another day or receive a refund.

Cancelation Policy: Cancelation requests provided at least two weeks prior to the scheduled charter will receive a full refund. Cancelation requests provided with less than two weeks, but more than six days from the scheduled charter will receive a 50% refund. All other cancelations are not subject to a refund.
